Department Overview
The Commercial Product & Platform vision develops global technology products and platforms that delight our customers and enable our crews to operate our restaurants reliably and effectively.
Software Engineer II reports to the Sr Engineering Manager. In this role, you will be an independent contributor accountable for the end-to-end delivery of product features. You will take ownership of designing, developing, testing, and deploying scalable and resilient software solutions that meet the highest standards of performance and security, working together with both our Product Management and Architecture teams to coordinate execution of the forward-looking vision of McDonald’s Digital Technologies and the high-value transformation initiatives that will fuel our journey.
That said, the biggest area of increase in our spending has been in technology, which is helping to drive our growth. We’re looking at how to use technology to improve customer experience; build new customer experiences; reduce or eliminate repetitive task areas and make employees’ jobs more exciting. With all the new projects and initiatives, it is an exciting time to be on the team that is helping to make a Better McDonald's!
Duties
- Work in a software development squad for Restaurant Products to support the design and development of new functionality and items related to technical debt.
- Independently resolve feature-level blockers and production defects, proactively engaging with peers to maintain sprint momentum without requiring manager intervention.
- Ensure product requirements, features, and backlog items are reviewed and understood as part of the Sprint planning.
- Own the end-to-end execution of assigned features, ensuring your code meets strict performance, security, and quality targets.
- Use software engineering best practices to ensure a high standard of quality for all teamwork.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality code by implementing unit tests, integration tests and code reviews.
- Leverage AI developer tools in your daily workflow to accelerate coding, automate unit testing, and optimize your delivery speed.
- Elevate your squad's execution by informally pairing with and mentoring junior engineers (SDE-I), contributing to code reviews, and proactively documenting architectures and best practices.
- Keep squad documentation up to date.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience with programming experience in Java and Spring Boot.
- 1+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
- 2+ years of experience with Relational Databases and SQL.
- 1+ years of experience with Angular.
- Hands-on experience with modern cloud platforms (GCP preferred) and a strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong knowledge of software development tools such as Git, GitHub, Jira, Confluence, IntelliJ or equivalent.
- Proven experience with Agile / Scrum framework.
- Experience influencing feature-level technical decisions and collaborating effectively with product managers and architects to align solutions.
- GCP certified is preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent years of experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
